OUR Three Ecological Climates

(Økologiske Klimaer — rooted in Ecological Polyvagal Theory)

A simple, embodied map of how OUR nervous system responds to life.

No pathology. No judgment. Only nature moving through us.

1. The Protected Cove

  • Quality:
     Safety. Connection. Social engagement.

 Trygghet. Tilknytning. Sosialt engasjement.

  • Felt sense:
     Calm, curious, open.
Able to rest, digest, relate, learn.

  • METAPHOR: En stille beskyttet vik

— a quiet protected cove.

Life growing gently in sheltered waters.

  • Why it matters:
This climate forms the biological ground for trust, belonging, and learning.

It is where we feel anchored enough to meet life as it is.

2. The Storm

  • Quality:
     Mobilization. Activation. Fight-or-flight.

 Mobilisering. Aktivering. «Kjemp eller flykt».

  • Felt sense:
Energy rising. Muscles bracing. Heart quickening.
     A push toward action.

  • METAPHOR: En kraftfull storm

— a powerful storm.

 Disruptive. Natural. Necessary. Temporary.

  • Why it matters:
     Stormen is not an error.

It is the body’s adaptive surge when something needs movement, boundary, or speed.

Honored, it becomes clarity and momentum.

3. The Winter Ice

  • Quality:
     Immobilization. Conservation. Shutdown.

 Immobilisering. Energikonservering. Nedstengning.

  • Felt sense:
     Numbness, heaviness, withdrawal, collapse, emptiness.
A turning inward when the load feels too great.

  • METAPHOR: En frossen innsjø

— a frozen lake.

Still. Protective. Waiting for warmth to return.

  • Why it matters:
Winter ice is a life-protecting strategy.
     Seeing it as
wintering rather than failing dissolves shame and invites compassion.
Here, the system pauses to survive.

Soulstream Summary

OUR body is not malfunctioning.
 It is mirroring weather.

  • Cove when connection is possible.

  • Storm when movement is needed.

  • Winter when retreat protects life.

When we read our inner climate with the same respect we give the land,
we shift from self-judgment to self-relationship

—

from “what is wrong with me?” to

“which climate am I in, and what does this climate need?”

In bodyCRAFT, learning begins where the body listens — and everything else unfolds from here.
